Biography
Jeffrey C. Rachor is a thirty five year veteran of the automobile industry with unique senior executive and entrepreneurial leadership experience. Jeff has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Berkshire Hathaway Automotive Inc., since Berkshire Hathaway Inc.’s March 2015 acquisition of the Van Tuyl Group, the nation’s largest privately held dealer group. Jeff joined the Van Tuyl Group in 2009 as Chief Operating Officer, and was named President in 2011.
Prior to his Van Tuyl Group tenure, Jeff was President and Chief Executive Officer of MSD Automotive Partners, a retail automotive consolidation start up venture backed by MSD Capital in 2008-2009. From 2007 to 2008 he served as President, Chief Executive Officer and Director of Pep Boys-Manny, Moe, and Jack, where he gained valuable automotive aftermarket experience at one of nation’s largest DIY retailers and DIFM service providers.
From 1997 -2008, Mr. Rachor served in a variety of key executive positions at Sonic Automotive, including President and Chief Operating Officer from 2004-2007, and as a Director from 1999-2008. During his tenure, the company grew from $500 million in revenue to $8 billion in revenue.
From 1989-1997, Mr. Rachor held a variety of key positions at Bowers Transportation Group, a fourteen franchise Regional Dealership chain based in Tennessee, including Dealer Principal, President, and Chief Operating Officer. Prior to Mr. Rachor’s retail automotive career, he held management positions with American Suzuki Motor Corporation and General Motors-Buick Division.
Mr. Rachor has a Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University where General Motors sponsored him through their college cooperative program.
